THE DOUBLE STACCATO IN THE CLARINET

Analysis, technique and its contemporary use

SYNOPSIS

THE DOUBLE STACCATO IN THE CLARINET… REALLY?

Articulation is one of the most important elements in music, being the staccato one of its main forms in musical interpretation. Clarinetists have well assumed this concept, but nevertheless there is a great gap in terms of the non-adoption of rapid articulation in our Instrument.

In these pages we will find an investigation that delves into the history of music and clarinet, finding the answer of why the clarinet did not assume the technique of double staccato since its inception, when its related instruments did dominate it. We will see its evolution and the importance of this valuable technique today with clear examples in our repertoire.
